M.F. McDowell received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and a BFA in Film/TV from UCLA. While at UCLA he wrote and co-directed the underground cult feature film, Sheila and the Brainstem. He lives in British Columbia and has never been caught naked in public. This is his first novel.

Open City, Closed Set is a comic romp through Hollywood during World War II and follows Robert Ball, an Italian spy sent to investigate his predecessor’s disappearance. Along the way Robert gets “discovered” by a producer, seduced by his bi-sexual leading lady, bullied by his Nazi superior, and falls in love with an ambitions assistant director. Ultimately this charming Italian spy must choose between his country, the woman he loves, and his own dreams and ambitions.
