Hello designers. We’d like for you to design a 6.125” x 9.25” hardcover book cover for us. Here’s the information on the book:
Subtitle: Profiting from the Profound Demographic Shifts Ahead
Author: Kenneth W. Gronbach with Jamie Moye
Audience: business executives, marketers, entrepreneurs. This is a book which looks at important worldwide demographics that will be changing in the next 20 years. It tells businesspeople that by understanding what’s going to happen, they can be prepared to take advantage of how the needs of consumers will change.
Over all “look and feel”: a clean, strong, sophisticated cover that implies the idea of “economic optimism.” Should be powerful and simple with a surprising or intriguing element. In case you are not a native English speaker, the word “upside” means the positive or good side of something. This is NOT an academic book, but a very easy-to-read, practical overview for businesspeople. Therefore the cover should feel inviting and not cold.
Possible imagery: We want an image or visual that implies “up” or optimism, but within a business context. Possibly the title itself could have an interesting treatment that says going up. The obvious visual is an “up arrow,” but we don’t want anything that looks like a textbook or generic or “clip art”-feeling. It needs to feel fresh. Maybe something that communicates “the future of people is good.” Possibly you could use a pie chart if it’s in a unique way. Maybe look at other “demographic” symbols and see what you can do somethign interesting with.
NOTE #1: We do NOT want all the business cliches: NO office building, men in suits, briefcases, financial graphs, handshakes
Published books with similar feel: I’ve attached two compilations: 1. VisualPun-Spare — these designs are clean and strong, but each has a sophisticated visual that is a smart “joke” about the topic. 2. CleanContmpPowrful — these are not quite as interesting as #1, but they have the correct clean, strong look.
NOTE #2: Please show me your designs as a face-front, flat image. You’re welcome to also include an angled “3D” version if you want, but we want to be able to compare all the designs in a FLAT format. We prefer jpgs that are about 1200 pixels tall. We do not want to see a spine or a back cover.
NOTE #3: Please do not send many subtle variations on a given design (I can’t look through all of them). Pick the verision that YOU think works best.
