I'm definitely open to ideas but I want it to appeal to primarily high schoolers, so nothing that looks so juvenile that they'd be turned off.
I want something that is, above all, ‘modern-chic.’ This is mostly for a teenaged audience and they’re just as big of fans of the whole ‘nudes and grays and metallics’ color schemes as we are. However, I need something that also has some visual interest. Here are some plot points that could help:
--Keena is a potter and a major plot point is that she sketches mug designs in her notebooks.
--Keena has panic attacks
--Her best friend and potential girlfriend is Latina with tight curls and freckles; Keena is half-Black and half-Italian with wavy-curly hair (like 3a) and a somewhat olive complexion.
--significant objects in the text: a thin gold chain bracelet with a small sapphire hanging from the end; dogwood flowers; ivy; a beaded navy blue prom dress; the mug that Keena makes for Christina—bare brown clay on the outside, painted clouds on the inside, tiny heart carved into the bottom.
I'm attaching the current cover. The kids like that it's matte and they're fans of the dark gray but it needs some 'sex appeal.' Think of the recent style of wedding invitation (I'm attaching one for those of you who haven't gone through that particular hell)-- sort of sleek and minimalist.
