I'm a psychotherapist with a specific interest in addictions and eating disorders from a long term contemporary psychoanalytic perspective. My theoretical basis falls under "eclectic" but majorly informed by Freud and those who have followed him and psychodynamic in nature (ie. my favourite text was called "Making Sense Together" and that's what I do).
My target client is anyone going through an existential crisis (as manifested by relying on external sources to avoid facing it)... and wants to deal with it on that level.
Oh, and they have to pay! So I'd like to attract an affluent and educated client like professionals, finance types and entrepreneurs (and their wives and older teenagers)
I also incorporate elements of twelve step practices and spirituality (bias towards Judaeo-Christian and Buddhist traditions) into my practice. I actually talk alot about being connected to all other living things and a Higher Power, whatever the client's concept of a Higher Power is (often God).
As I am really the product... a bit about me! I'm 45, had a previous career in politics and public relations. I just completed a Masters of Psychology two years ago. I love my family of three and my messed up chihuahua from the shelter. I've been married for 17 years! I volunteer in the community and do yoga and spinning in my spare time. Used to sail alot and still love being on, in and near water. I use humour alot (and sometimes it's dark) but a very bright outlook on life.
Confidentiality, discretion, secrecy and trust is key to my practice also.
