Victoria Trail Agricultural Society (VTAS) is a not-for-profit community group that provides programs, services and facilities to Waskatenau, Alberta, and the surrounding area.
In 1961, an enthusiastic group of community members held a meeting with the intent to form an agricultural society. ‘Victoria Trail Agricultural Society’ was selected as the organization’s registered name due to the historic Victoria Trail that twists throughout the region.
During the first meeting, the group pledged to improve livestock, grain, seed and hay activities through sponsorship of shows and fairs. For the homemaker, they agreed to promote vegetables, flowers, handicrafts and baking through sponsorship of bench shows (exhibitions). Finally, 4H clubs and educational tours were deemed an important focus for the society.
Today, VTAS operates a multi-complex building comprising of an arena (for horse shows, motorcross racing, etc.) and fitness centre; maintains a skateboard, basketball and ice skating park adjacent to the building; and organizes an annual community fair consisting of a horse show, bench show, parade and baseball tournament.
VTAS continues to operate according to its creed: The betterment of farming, living and the community.
The target audience is males and females of all ages, as VTAS offers a variety of programs, services and facilities to everyone in the local community.
