We are looking for 8 icons for an application called P3i (Proactive Police Patrol Information) that is being developed with the Lincoln Police Department. The application is a location-aware application that plots points of interest for police on a map just as Google Maps would plot restaurants or movie theaters for a search. The application tracks an officer's current location and shows him/her information about: broadcasts; suspected gang members; registered parolees; registered sex offenders; active warrants; and recently reported incidents. The officers can select the points to view information about individuals at the point and can jump to departmental information databases to view the individual rap sheet. The application also allows officers to submit reports for a location or a person back to HQ.
What we are looking for:
- icons for each of the point types: 1) broadcasts; 2) gangs; 3) parolees; 4) sex offenders; 5) warrants; 6) incidents; and 7) an icon for when multiple interests exist at a point (like a warrant and a broadcast at the same address -- see the gray 'M' icon on the screen shots),
- an icon for the current officer position,
- an icon for the application itself.
Each of the map icons should be 256x256 and the application icon should be 1024x1024. All icons should be submitted as PSD files. We've attached some screen shots of the app so that you can see our less than stellar map icons. Feel free to be creative and not go with the concepts you see in the screen shots. While we like the idea of the position icon being a police car, we also are interested in seeing what people more creative than us can come up with. Stick pins for the interest points are good, but we aren't married to the idea. The point icons do, however, need to have some textual way of representing what the point contains so that color blind individuals can still easily determine point types at a glance. Beyond that constraint, go nuts, we want to see what you guys can do!
