We need an icon for a new app we've created. The app is a gag 'meter' that appears to point to someone (the gag target). It looks just like a real, vintage electronic meter with a dial and needle and a flashing red light at the top. The closer the meter is pointed toward the target, the more the needle and flashing light signals.
Here's the trick: the user secretly points the app toward the person they want to gag, then clicks a secret area. The app remembers that compass direction. Later, when the app is pointed toward the person in that direction, it SEEMS like the PERSON is being signaled but really, anything in that DIRECTION is signaled.
Sorry to go into such detail, but we needed to. What sets this app apart from the hundred other 'meter' apps is that it really seems to work because of the compass direction mechanism we use. No other apps key off of a direction like ours does.
We'd like the icon to somehow convey that it is a meter (of course), but also that it works based on 'direction'. Some ideas we had incorporated: a compass, picking someone specific out of a crowd, maybe an overhead plan view with a dashed line (signal) going from the meter to the target person (obviously you can see why we're not doing our own icon ;)
We will be using this same app as the basis for others that work the same exact way .. the only thing we have to do to turn "SatisFinder" into RedNeck Radar is to change the name on the faceplate. Therefore the icon must be somewhat generic and not specific to the name of the gag app meter.
The first meter we are releasing is "SatisFinder" .. Uncovers Good Lovers".
