Our idea is to create a design to serve as the 'Official Charity hoodie' for a non-profit organisation called the Manta Trust.
Our charity is a marine conservation NGO focused around the research and conservation of manta rays - the world's largest rays, and one of the most intelligent and charismatic animals in our oceans.
The plan is to put this design onto the front of a standard pull-over hoodie that has front pockets (although we may also put the design on the back of a zip-up hoodie in the future).
We have a very particular idea for a design that we want designers to focus on. Our idea is to use the words 'Manta Trust' to create the shape and outline of a manta ray. The letters form the fill for the animal, with the outer edges shaped in such a way as to form the outline of a manta. We have included a design of an existing NGO we work with, called Bite-Back, who have done a similar thing with their name to create a shark. This is by far the best reference image to go off.
We'd like the outline of the manta to be a view you would get if you silhouetted them against the sun. It's a very distinct and well known shape for an animal.
This design will likely go onto a dark navy blue hoodie, so we would like the colours to be lighter shades of blue, maybe even white. We think having the word 'Manta' and the word 'Trust' in different shades of blue may help the design and the name to stand out, but happy to leave that up to the designer's ideas or interpretation.
It's really important that the manta outline doesn't look too 'square' and unnatural. These are really graceful animals, so curves and round edges are probably the way to go here. Also, the outline of the manta lends this design to a certain degree of symmetry, so the tail of the animal is probably best being kept short and straight - as if down the centre of the hoodie.
I've included another hoodie design from Basking Shark Scotland. Whilst the design itself has nothing to do with what we're after, the reason we've included this is 1) it's a simple design, and that's what we're after. A really high quality, simplistic design. 2) It gives you a good idea of the placement and size of the final design on an actual hoodie.
I hope this helps! Please see the reference images below for guidance. And don't hesitate to send direct messages if you'd like any further clarification.
