The company name is Wild Dog Cafe. I would like an illustration of a wild dog that, along with some copy, could be the logo. You are only doing the illustration, not the copy.
It should appeal to an 18 to 45-year-old crowd who like dogs and healthy food.
Values? Things like simple, stylized, sophisticated, smart and unique.
I want the image to look like a petroglyph of a wild dog (or of a wolf or of a coyote, which look like a dog). I considered going for humor because petroglyphs seem cartoonish. But an authentic-looking petroglyph will have a greater chance of success with me. Still, many petroglyphs have a cartoonish look to them, which I like. So, secondarily, a cartoonish look is good. But it needs to be in a petroglyph style and recognized first as a petroglyph. I believe a solid, all black image will work best (versus an outline image). I would like the dog to be standing up, i.e., standing on its hind legs (imagine the image fitting easily on, say, a beer bottle). I’d like very little detail so it will hold up if it’s shrunk down to, say, a ¾” height on a business card. An eps file would be good so it can be easily resized.
UPDATE: Here is more of what I like, although these qualities aren't necessary. I'm stating them because I want to avoid the opposite. (So, for example, a neutral presentation may work well.) Happy is good (sad, angry or mad are not good). Energetic is good (sloth-like or inactive is not good). Fit-looking is good (dumpy is not good). Gender-neutral is probably safest (too macho and too feminine are not good). Dominant-looking is good (submissive-looking, like begging, is not good; a dog in attack-mode is not good). Something spiritual, or hinting of spirituality, would work but is not necessary.
Here are some links to images of petroglyph dogs:
1) See the coyote image at the bottom of the page. The coyote is standing, which is what I want, but I DO NOT LIKE the body shape of this animal:
2) This is a nicely shaped dog:
