Greenpeace recently released a report called "Driving Destruction in the Amazon: how steel production is throwing forest into the furnace."
This is a great article that summarizes the issue:http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/may/17/ford-gm-bmw-logging-brazil
This report documents the environmental and humanitarian issues around the production wood charcoal for pig iron in the Amazon. This is a complicated issue that could use a very simple and visually compelling infographic that follows the process of producing pig iron, highlighting the impacts.
There is description of the production and supply chain in the report on page 6 of the PDF, titled "the pig iron supply chain" but this is does not explain the problem through visuals and would most likely not do well as a stand alone infographic that we could use on social media outlets to promote the issue and lead people to share with their friends and family.
The report itself has a ton of facts and figures that could be used to show the supply chain, the devastating impacts and the American brands that use the pig iron.
We have an image bank that people can use: photo.greenpeace.org - just need to submit a request for access.
The final infographics would have to be vetted for accuracy by our policy experts.
I will check this page every couple of days if people need answers.
