Recently the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) have launched an advertising campaign trying to promote natural gas and put pressure on governments to reduce regulations and restrictions on their industry. As part of the campaign they made the follow claim
“Australia’s natural gas industry created an estimated 100,000 jobs last year.” Our natural advantage an APPEA website
Attached is ABS data showing the number of jobs created by each industry including the Oil and Gas industry. According to the ABS the oil and gas industry created 9,300 jobs in the last year. With the attached data is also a graph. This is for Illustrative purposes only. While we want that data shown we leave it up to you on what the best way to do that is.
In that year an additional 173,600 jobs were added to the Australian economy. If the gas industry is claiming to be responsible for creating 100,000 additional jobs then they are claiming approximately 58% of those jobs. According to the ABS data they only created 9,300 of the 173,600 jobs, or approximately 5%.
We want to represent this in 2 figures. One showing the actual percentage of jobs oil and gas are responsible for and 1 figure showing what they are claiming to be responsible for.
We require the final Illustration to be sized in A4 for our website.
