The files attached show what the building currently looks like. It is currently a warehouse and we want to transform into to a a homeless shelter. We would like for the designers to use color codes in their designs to show office/medical areas, sleeping areas, and recreational areas as in the examples.
The project consist of a homeless shelter for 200 adults. We would like to design two options. Option 1 is a 200 people living on ground floor and lower level as in the existing building.
Option 2 is adding a 2nd floor to the existing building to create a 2nd floor.
24 hour reception in entrance of building (1st and 2nd floor)
Dining / Multi-use room / community room /
Large Cafeterias / Commercial Kitchen / Food Pantry
Laundry Room / Showers
Restrooms / Lockers
Multi Purpose Large Room / Waiting TV Area
Garden / Balcony / public courtyard
Client Service Areas = Blue
Office Space = Pink/Beige
Medical Services = Yellow
Showers/lockers/restrooms = Green
Dining/Kitchen/ = Purple
Yes you can add new windows to make sure each room has windows and we can even close off existing windows.
We can we add light metal structures to create balconies but because it is a homeless shelter, the City of NY is concerned with LIABILITY. For example people jumping off and committing suicide.
A rooftop cafe is good but let's call it a multi-use room or additional bedrooms. Homeless people don't hang out in coffee shops but I get the idea and I like the concept.
As you may recall, option 2 was to add another floor or half floor with green area.
Grass, green space, benches and potted trees on the roof is a plus.
The main entrance at the upper floor is from E 182nd street.
