To get started, let’s imagine an iPhone or Android game. Imagine a puzzle game that has hundreds of levels and hours of great content. The levels range from introductory beginner levels to advanced levels with obstacles, power-ups, portals, and other interactive features.
Let’s say the levels are segmented into episodes based on the features contained within those levels where Episode 1 contained 100 levels of similar characteristics…Episode 2 contained another 100 levels of similar characteristics …Episode 3, Episode 4, etc, etc…
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to design the cover illustrations for the Episodes. The Episode cover illustration is a foreshadowing of what is to come in the levels contained within that Episode – a small scene, a point in time rendering of the action the player is going to experience. Something simple, but artistically enticing.
I specifically need 3 illustrations right now each 1024px width, 2048px height
2 of the 3 Episode illustrations will reflect the content of the levels they contain and the 3rd Episode illustration will be a “Coming Soon” illustration.
You have artistic freedom on this one. You are the creative people, that’s why I come here!
To give you a basic idea of what I am looking for I am attaching an image from a different game about slinging birds. Each Episode (numbered 1-5 in the image) contains an illustration. In this case it is not of gameplay, but this should give you basic idea.
To really get you going in the right direction I am providing 2 video links of actual gameplay. The first video titled “Episode 1” contains gameplay from the first episode of the game. The second video titled “Episode 2” contains gameplay from the second episode of the game.
Your inspiration for the Episode 1 illustration should be the first video and your inspiration for the Episode 2 illustration should be the second video. I will definitely say that the illustration for Episode 2 needs to be based on the portals.
In the videos you will notice I spend time on a sample menu screen with the episodes numbered from 1-6. For your illustrations do not include the number and dark oval you see in the top left of the episode image. Just leave that area blank. Also, do not include the blue box on the bottom that has some numbers and a star in it. Just leave that area blank. You have the whole 1024x2048 area to work with. The corners of the illustration, however, must be rounded as they are in the videos. Please no rectangles.
I would personally like to see the illustrations have a slight gloss to them and include a bit of motion blur to emphasize the fact these things are bouncing around. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need clarification.
The ultimate object of the game is to make matching groups of 5 of the same color to pop them and clear the entire level. Notice that only the same colors will stick to each other and that groups containing more than 5 do special things. You do not need to capture the special things that happen in your illustration.
Disregard the big hand in the demo videos it is there to help you visualize the shooting mechanic.
