L’Eroica is a global movement attracting thousands of individuals who seek to rediscover the beauty of fatigue and the thrill of conquest. We look to the past to inspire the future of cycling events.
In 1997 in Gaiole in Chianti, a small village in the province of Siena, 92 hunters of feelings and emotions gave life to the first edition of L'Eroica as they set out in a rainbow of vintage bikes and wool jerseys to commune with the dusty white roads of Tuscany. Each year ever since, on the first Sunday of October, the magic of an event lost in time is repeated across challenging routes traversing magnificent landscapes with unforgettable stops for refreshments involving thousands of passionate Eroici.
Eroica has spread also to several European countries and across the globe to Japan, California, South Africa and South America. In each place the rules are the same: you ride on bici eroiche, road racing bikes built 1987 or before, with gear, clothing and accessories of the vintage era, or following the same style and characteristics.

On Saturday June 29 the fourth edition of Eroica Limburg will take place. Three stunning and unique routes will depart from the global cycling hub of Valkenburg, passing through Belgium as well as the Netherlands. The route features not only the more familiar paved roads, but also includes an off-road section through the most beautiful part of the Benelux region. And of course, the event will be completely suffused with the special, historical Eroica style and atmosphere.
We are looking for an original artwork/illustration to promote the event in Limburg and celebrate the spirit and the values of Eroica.
The artwork will be used mainly on posters but also on web, newsletters and other marketing and communications materials.
We are looking for an illustration that simultaneously enhances vintage cycling and the main landscape elements of Limburg and its region.
In particular, they must be considered as essential elements: - “vakwerk” limestones houses
- the Maas river in a late spring atmosphere
- the famous border marker, since all Eroica Limburg routes cross borders into Belgium and Germany.
Eroica Limburg has many female cyclists participating in the event and we would like to see this reflected in the poster, as well as jerseys of famous riders and teams such as the TI- Raleigh team (see references in the gallery).
Style and mood must be in line with our coordinated image: vintage inspiration, essential design and plain primary colours not necessarily in a realistic representation.
