Hello Creative people,,, We’re a startup based in London (UK) called Eddison Wordplay, and we’re still at a pre-launch stage. Our brand aims to showcase literary art with visual creativity by giving life, through illustrated artwork, to our original thought-provoking one-liners, all written by our founder, Robert Eddison, who is a thinker, journalist and playwright. Through practicing his hobby, he has written over 32,000 one-liners (aphorisms) on over 150 categories, making him the world’s leading aphorist who writes with consideration to quality and quantity. We are looking for designers to illustrate our one-liners in a way that reinforces the words. The designs, along with the words, will be used to put on our merchandise and social media. Our brand values reflect boldness, wittiness and thought-provoking. We target all males/females from ages 15-40, but mainly from 16-27, who are interested in art, language, artistry T-shirts, wall art, etc...

The art movement our brand falls behind, is conceptual art with a touch of surrealism and abstract expressionism. Conceptual art ensures that all aspects of the design come from a source: the concept, and in this case, the concept comes from the one-liner. Surrealism and abstract expressionism are preferences for you to decide if you would like to create a similar style. (Please google “surrealism” and “abstract expressionism” For this contest we would like you to create a drawn illustration that brings our one-liners to life; Illustration is a function-based artistic manifestation. It means to possess easy-to-understand quality while rocking people's mind. By this we mean that the artwork should reflect, speak, reinforce and enhance the words. The design should also echo the words in an emotional sense. You should be able to portray the feelings and emotions felt behind the aphorism within the design, giving the design more depth. The artwork must adhere to the following values: -Thought-provoking (most important) -Bold -Quirky -Witty The artwork should follow the following guidelines: -Similar to one-line art -Drawn from scratch (original) -Main colors are black, shades of grey and white (You have the option to add very minimal pops of one other color if you think it needs so) Here are 3 one-liners for you to choose from (to illustrate) along with an explanation for each: 1 - Flirting with madness gives the creative mind its edge: Those who only think inside the box are plain boring. The creative mind longs for a hint of naughtiness, of evil, of insanity to make them more interesting. Here are definitions of madness (aphorism) just to be extra clear: -the state of having a serious mental illness. -extremely foolish behaviour. -a state of wild or chaotic activity. 2 - If you claim to read me like a book, I’ll ask you what page you’ve reached: It’s like saying If you claim to read my thoughts, I’ll ask you which thought you’re reading. 3 - Life is a blank cheque, made out to ourselves: This one-liner is in the figurative sense and NOT literal. The blank cheque is our future life, and we decide what to do with it. Write $1 on the check and you’re happy to be a dustman all your life. Write $1000000 and you aim to be prime minister. That said, it is your decision whether you would like to illustrate the words figuratively or in a literal sense whichever suits the concept best. The words can be in whatever position, font style, size you see best. They can be: -Scattered -In a pattern -Small font -Angled... etc. The only condition here is that they are existent and readable from a close distance at least. Just to be more in-depth, these will be applied on our merchandise (mainly: wall art, T-shirts, and other products) and social media pages. Thank you

I will include examples of one-liners that were illustrated for us very creatively. These inspiration photos are only to further explain what we mean by "illustrating the words". You can see in the examples that the design speaks and reinforces the words in a visual sense. The design can be as simple or as complex as you see fit, as long as the end result matches all the factors mentioned before. Note: you don't need to have the text laid out as shown in the attachment. Please feel free to arrange the words in any way you wish as long as they are present and for the font size you can make it small as long as it's readable from a distance. Thank you
