We sell high end outdoor camping products and gift items. We have manufactured for the Japanese for the past 10 years. We are now further expanding to North America hoping to position this brand as a hip, high-end outdoor brand made with durability and quality materials. We are targeting young campers, families, and experienced and some serious campers. Our products could be proudly used at the Grand Canyon as much as it could be at music festival.
¿Qué te inspira y qué diseño imaginas para tu empresa?
I would like a unique tent fabric design. It should be subtle and sophisticated as it is creative. I would even consider the design done in a comic art format, graffitis or splashes of just colour if it can be done really tastefully. Please keep in mind the breadth of nature and surroundings as backdrops when your design is placed against it. It should stand out and blend beautifully with the oceans and mountains. Other ideas to think about are regional cultures, sports and activities people could be doing during camping, including going to music festivals. I'm also interested in natural details, such as maple leaves, cherry blossoms, fir trees, animals, etc. The only limitation to your design is production costs, which is a factor to consider and I will include a photo of one of our past winners as an example to show you what works and what doesn't.
NOTE: I understand it is a concern for designers when the prize is not guaranteed. However, from my past experiences here I have had times when I simply had to just pick a winner for the sake of closing the contest when I locked my prize. In order to find a balance, I think I would be happy to accept even a draft of your idea and I will see from your past work to determine how capable you are of turning your draft submission to something amazing. I will be happy to lock the contest for you if I see something with potential, whether it's a draft or a final piece.
The first example is one of our past winners' design. The artwork, colours are done beautifully. It is unique, relevant to camping, stands out among endless boring plain coloured tents, yet is sophisticated enough and not too showy against nature. However, the drawback is that because it requires pattern matching therefore it creates a lot of waste material during production. The second fabric is example of an all-over fabric design. This is what we want in terms of production requirement as it does not require pattern-matching. We will be able to utilize every inch of fabrics. However, it never won because although it is great colour and cool, the way the ant-eaters are projected is too busy, and it almost feels like it should be used on an indoor kid's tent. Keep in mind the patterns are to be used on sometimes a giant 8-10 person tent for serious campers and glampers. A design like the ant-eater one being repeated a hundred times on a tent could easily look tacky instead of cool.
But nonetheless, thank you for all your submissions!
