My name is Wes Hunter and my wife is Jaclyn Ridge. Wandering Whistler Cafe will be a full service board game cafe intending to open in a 1950s retrofitted bowling alley Oct. 2021. We will serve coffee, including espresso drinks, and have a full service bar with classic cocktails and beer on tap. Our unique selling point is that we will have a library of games for guests to choose from and enjoy at tables and a retail store should they find a game that they just have to have a copy of. Our target audience is adults 18-39 with a focus on two local colleges (EIU and Lakeland College). We are located in Mattoon, IL, but expect our target market to include the greater Mattoon area, Charleston, IL and extending outside of Coles County for events. The idea is we are a unique place to socialize with quality products and our goal is to bring new people to board games in a neutral place where all parties can feel welcome and comfortable. Staff will assist guests with any questions in addition to serving as one would find at a typical restaurant. We have chosen Wandering Whistler Cafe as the name to tie in our background and our passions into the cafe. We are outdoor enthusiasts and travelers with a serious love for all things nerdy: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons, etc. The name incorporates our wandering background with our love of birds and waterfowl. In particular we like ducks, both hunting and observing, and Illinois is part of the migration pattern with a strong hunting community. Whistling ducks are a type of duck and although the Wandering Whistling duck is not local, it is a real duck found in South Asia and Australia. We hunt and eat what we kill as part of our belief in sustainability and humane treatment of animals, choosing to stay away from inhuman food practices and processors when possible. The word Wandering also has personal meaning to us as we enjoy traveling and seeing new parts of the world. It seems like every trip we make a stop to feed the ducks and sometimes come home with more photos of birds than anything else. Beyond travel, we recently relocated from our home town of Chattanooga, TN to Mattoon, IL and expect to relocate in the future. The Wandering Whistler brand is not intended to be limited to single location in central Illinois. We would be partial to logos that incorporate a duck, but it is not a requirement as crisp and simple is something we value. Tagline: Community. Coffee. Cocktails "Community" - It is our belief and mission statement to support economic growth and opportunity, which often takes the form of supporting of local literacy programs. This will be incorporated into the cafe through outreach programs and being a place of inclusivity and knowledge sharing. We want to focus on bringing board games to a new audience while being a home for those who already have a passion. "Coffee. Cocktails" - as a cafe, we are place to sit and enjoy a nice cup of coffee or to grab one on the go. This will be mixed with a full bar that serves classic cocktails and mixed drinks. Guests can play games and enjoy drinks, both alcoholic or non-alcoholic and either small bites or a full meal. We will sell games and game accessories in addition to allowing people to play demo games in-store. We will sell games both in store and through e-commerce.

I have attached a marketing plan which goes into some further detail of the concept in addition to uploading photos of the bowling alley as it is now. For the past 10-15 years it has been used as a wedding venue and not a restaurant bar or cafe. Finally, we have been considering hiring a muralist to decorate the exterior of the building, particularly around the entrances.
