Mission Statement: To be a great partner for real estate entrepreneurs by helping them realize their vision and achieve their goals through collaboration and investment. What does the company do: WestHawk Capital is a real estate investment firm that is structured as an incubator and accelerator of emerging real estate managers. We take both an opportunistic “bottom up” approach and a research-driven “top down” approach to identifying investment strategies and emerging managers with whom to partner. The company is based in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. A “bottom up” approach is when a real estate entrepreneur has an investment strategy and approaches us as they are looking for a partner or a co-general partner to help them execute their business plan and scale their strategy. We get to know the manager, perform diligence on them and their strategy, and determine if we are a mutual fit to partner up in building an investment platform together. A “top down” approach is when, through WestHawk’s research, we identify a property type or investment strategy where we think attractive returns can be achieved and where we think — with the right partner — we can be successful investors, we search for a team to either start a company together or partner with an existing team, partnership or company to pursue the strategy and scale the platform. WestHawk also invests in real estate-related operating companies in both active and passive roles. Who is the target audience: There are three groups of audiences - people or companies who may partner with us in an investment strategy - private and institutional investors who will invest in our deals, funds and investments. - businesses who will do business with WestHawk directly or with one of our affiliated companies. This could range from lenders, to venders, to parties on the other side of transactions.

The company is named for West Hawk Lake in Manitoba, near the company's owner's hometown of Winnipeg, in central Canada, not far from the US border. Manitoba is said to have over 100,000 lakes throughout the province, almost all of which were left over from glacial times. West Hawk Lake, while small, is different from all the other lakes: it was formed by a meteorite in pre-historic times, is almost a perfect circle, and is the deepest lake in the entire province. From an aerial, West Hawk Lake is almost indistinguishable from the rest of the lakes in the province, but based on its depth below the surface, and in terms of its “story”, it couldn’t be more different. The meaning of this is important — many opportunities look the same from a common vantage point, but it is not until you fully understand both the history and what lies below the surface that you can understand the depth and meaning of such opportunities. There are three words related to the WestHawk name that could be used in a logo, but don’t need to be used. Obviously the direction “west”, the word “hawk” for the type of bird, and a word not in the name but part of the meaning which is the impact crater lake (the type of lake formed by a meteorite crashing into earth). The lake concept is the most relevant to the name of the company, even though the word “lake” is not directly in the name of the company. In terms of logo design, our preference is for a combination mark, either where the words and the logo are combined (i.e. Burger King) or where the logo and words are separate but coordinated (i.e. our existing affiliated brand Alignment Realty Capital [www.alignmentrc.com], whose logo was also designed through a 99Designs contest.
