Note after reviewing initial designs: Many of the designs feature lions and crowns. A lion could work, but it is a pretty obvious mark. I am not really interested in crowns, especially European ones. I was hoping to see some other options that are "less obvious." I am looking for more integration between the name and the symbol. I would also like to see something more reflects the mission of the firm -- "to elevate the capabilities of individuals and organizations." A theme that might do this could also build upon my interest in education.
The word "Maada" means chief or king in the Mende language of Sierra Leone (which means "lion mountain" in Portuguese). About 10 years ago, I was made an honorary paramount chief there and given the title "Maada" in thanks for the support my family had provided a "favorite son" from the Mattru village.
Education is important to me. In addition to the consulting firm, I am teaching half-time as a business professor at a local college of business. 10% of my profits from Maada Consulting & Analytics will go to either KidsGIve, a non-profit created by wife that provides support for scholarships to secondary students in Sierra Leone (including Mattru) , or it will go to the Maada scholarship, which is offered to students with leadership potential from West Africa or the Caribbean who are attending Lawrence University. The idea of education is also part of my approach to consulting in that I want projects that "elevate" the capabilities of the people and organizations that I work for rather than just solve problems for people.
I am looking for an icon that works here in the US in a business environment, but also acknowledges this social cause and the importance that I attach to it.
This icon will be used in website, business cards, and in powerpoint presentations. I would like an icon that also looks good if printed in just one color to save ink costs when doing powerpoint presentations, etc.
One last thing. There is an organization in the US called "MAADA" already. "Metro Atlanta Automobile Dealers Association," So, I cannot be just "Maada" in the logo.
