We love our current logo-ish. BUT ARE NOT MARRIED TO IT. Had some issues with trademark, specifically the 13 point lightning bolt that the grateful dead owns. SO we obviously can't do that.... We really like the strength of the logo as is, and have pulled out the words for embroidered hats in stuff. We need to think about merchandise, events, and other uses. Thats probably why the blend doesn't work (as per attached).
Orange: ff6600, Blue: 0033ff (those are the colors we like) - we also need the logo to be trsnsparent because there are several other uses for it.
We are looking to bring forward the idea of listening, searching, and music discovery. The connection to the Grateful Dead is important but we don't want to step on trademark situations. We also don't think we need to articulate the brand with specific Grateful Dead icons (skulls, bolts, skeletons, dancing bears, etc.). We want something iconic, bold and strong that is tasteful, an ode to, but not specifically Grateful Dead.
We are a podcast, with 30,000 listeners. Our audience is 90% american. Mostly men, with some females. I interview musicians and play their music.
The logo will be used on the web (website, podcast platform), social, potentially in print and in merchandise (embroidery, silk-screen etc.). So it can't be too complicated, but yet it should be sophisticated. We're not married to "listening for the secret, searching for the sound" being part of the logo. If it's something that can come on and off that would be great.
There needs to be a horizontal and vertical version, since there are several use cases.
While the colors are orange and blue as noted above, we welcome suggestions and ideas that don't necessarily adhere to that scheme.
We us the logo in a multitude of ways, sometimes with or without words, depending on the use. You can check out our website (http://www.thesoundpodcast.com), our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/thesoundpodcast) to get a sense of where and how we use the logo.
