It is our expertise and research field, the core of our actions.
Our mission is to:
Expand and develop scientific knowledge on addictions
Through research, support the development of leading practices in clinical settings
Disseminate and share knowledge obtained by evidence-based research
Contribute to the training of health and social care professionals and of community partners across the province
Take an active part in technology and intervention assessment
Our research activities aim at:
Documenting the prevalence of addictions in Québec society and factors associated with this phenomenon
Studying processes that explain addiction and recovery
Identifying and evaluating the best practices and strategies in prevention, detection and evaluation of addictions and best practices in treatment, rehabilitation and socio-economic reintegration of users
The Institute is a network of more than 40 researchers and clinicians from 8 universities throughout Québec. In addition, we collaborate with a vast network of partners in the field of addictions.
Our team is multidisciplinary and our work relies on a principle of co-construction of knowledge
We innovate at the 6 core dimensions of our mission as a University Institute : 1) research, 2) teaching, 3) knowledge translation and utilization, 4) research outreach, 5) leading practices development, and 6) technology and intervention assessment in addictions.

Our outreach is done at multiple levels and is felt by a variety of groups :
- In order to reach a wide public, the IUD uses various medias of communications
- We inform policy and policy-making in Québec
- Works by our researchers and experts have a regional, national and international scientific impact.
