The primary focus of the WVCTSI's is to address the transcending health issues that affect the people of West Virginia/Appalachia These focus areas include: child health in rural Appalachia; socio-economic disparities & rural health; and human behavior & disease prevention specific to Appalachia.
In order to transform the health and health care of West Virginians/Appalachians, a host of partnerships have been forged throughout the state in order to make radical changes in the health of our constituents. These partnerships range from state government agencies to community based organizations.

WVCTSI Goals and aims:
1. Stimulate the discovery of new knowledge
CTSI AIM - Establish an academic home and robust infrastructure for clinical
and translational research in WV
2. Transform new knowledge into practice
CTSI AIM - Forge community and national partnerships in order to conduct studies, share data, disseminate information, and develop/implement public policy
3. Cultivate the next generation of clinical and translational scientists
CTSI AIM - Develop and implement training programs for clinical and translational scientists
