The Great Wake Up! is a campaign that will result in a book written by Chris Barez-Brown and published by Penguin. It is a fun experiment in how to find the time and energy to make your life a brighter and more fulfilling place. In essence, a strategy for life liberation!
Shake Up! We all feel dissatisfied at times. We all feel stuck at times. Many of us when we think about our lives, find that although many aspects of it are fulfilling and fantastic, we still find ourselves asking “is this it?”.
We spend much of our time thinking about the past and the future, and not about the present, as we are bombarded daily by ever-increasing amounts of stimulus.
Our emotions are suppressed by overindulging in sugary foods, caffeine and alcohol and then escaping into the world of social media, television, gaming and film. We are protecting ourselves with numbness, dulling certain parts of our senses and our reactions to the outside world.
Much of our life we therefore spend asleep or on standby.
It’s a waking sleep, where we look as if we are functioning perfectly and seem very efficient, as far as us working through our to-do lists, however, we are anything but conscious. We are on autopilot, going through the motions.
We are zombie worker-ants.
By doing something new and breaking our routines, could we create a part of our everyday life that could give us positive benefits?
Tune Up! Over the next 12 months, Chris will be embarking on a journey of exploration. Every month he will propose four experiments that will make us more aware of whom we are in the world in which we live.
The first month’s experiments will look something like this:
Week one: Learn to Love! I will tell five people per day what I love about them
Week two: Nature is Nurture – Spend 10 minutes of every day in a green space, with no distractions.
Week three: Suppress those Stimulants – I will not drink alcohol, have any caffeine, or any refined sugar.
Week four: Dance Dance Dance! – For 30 minutes everyday, I will dance like nobody is watching.
