Old-School Astrology is the brand I'm building for my astrology practice. I am a consulting astrologer and astrology blogger. I'll be using the Old School Astrology bran on social media and eventually it will be the name of a podcast (God-willing!).
The name "old school" is a reference to my style of astrology, which is very old - most of my techniques I use are over 1000 years old.
My target audience is spiritual seekers, people of a philosophical bent, astrology students, occultists, history buffs, and basically anyone with an open mind about astrology.

Okay everyone, so I've decided to change and have no restrictions on colour - the earthy tones aren't really doing it for me. So have free reign! But know that I am increasingly drawn to the idea of a black and white only logo too.

I like the simplicity of this design, the old-fashioned look of it, and the Celtic-looking line work in the circle in the background. It has a definite medieval or fantasy feel to it which would fit well with my brand.
The traditional or "retro" look of this logo is on point with what my initial thoughts were for my own logo - playing on the "Old School" name by presenting an image of old-fashioned charm, tradition, the trust that comes with something old and established.
Similar to the HBF logo - the retro look is why I like this one. It's also quite clean and bold, not too many flourishes to distract.
This is quite classy, sophisticated, mature, masculine - which is certainly the tone I am going for with my brand. But I think the design might be a little too details-rich to look good scaled down. Still, for tone and style it's on point.
I know this is miles away from the "old fashioned" look I've been espousing but I do like the simple geometry of this design. For my own logo, if I went with a geometrical design it would need to somehow speak "Astrology" to people - so perhaps some kind of spherical shape, like a star globe or orrerry?
Replace the tree with something astrology related of course. But this is simple and clean, and would look good scaled down, so it's in the ball park of what I'm after.
I think what appealed to me with this one is the tone, the masculine and simple look, but honestly I'd really want either a plain black or white background for the logo so that it can be utilised in various ways with no fuss.
The old-fashioned style is appealing to me and works well with the "old school" name.
I think any pictures in the logo would need to be quite simple. This one does that well, and it also captures that old-timey feel that I find appealing for my brand.
A bit more modern than I'd typically like, but the capitals and serif font does give it more an old-time flavour. Plus its bold, masculine, simple, and with a touch of class.
The ideal logo would play on the "old school" name by either picking up on the medieval/Renaissance theme of my work, or by playing with the hip-hop angle of the phrase "old school."
My initial thought was that a retro theme for the logo would be a great fit for the business name, perhaps something 19th century or even older in style.
But I'm also open to playing on the hip-hop connotation of the name, with some hip-hop culture references or graffiti-inspired elements.
It's crucial that the logo be versatile enough that it could be scaled own and used as a profile photo for social media but also look good in a larger size. I think that probably means not too many fine details that would be lost if the image was scaled down.
I'm drawn to the idea of an old-fashioned circular emblem. But also open to an abstract mark or a pictorial mark if it fits the bill.
