We're looking for a logo that we can use for theotherprice.org. This site will allow users to input a few details about a product and then find out a quantified $ figure on the social (and soon environmental) impact of the production of that product.
The operation of the website is that once a few details are put in (type of product, country of manufacture) the user will click through to a second page that will have 4-6 panels of information: A quantified $ figure on the impact of producing that item, a panel explaining how the calculation was made, a panel contextualising that figure (ie, that a $1 social impact could effectively be a 50% reduction on the worker's daily wage in the country of manufacture), a panel linking to a relevant charity were that figure could be donated to address the deficit, and a panel of alternative products that have a lower negative impact.
We are about bringing clarity to something that is complex and changing behaviours.
As clarity is our mission, it would be ideal if our logo could be quite clear and uncluttered. Since we're trying to change behaviours by laying out the facts, not by taking a specific position on how someone should act, it would also be beneficial if the logo did not come across as too demanding or preachy.
We need a logo that represents our mission and can be used to build the design scheme for the rest of the site. We anticipate the need for the development of graphical icons and colours that may come to represent the various panels described above. Once the logo is settled these will be our next design tasks. This may not necessary influence the design of the brand logo, but may help put the task in context.
