Marietta is a beautiful place with really cool people living in it. It has old time Southern square with a large fountain and beautiful big trees. Marietta is a railroad town and people came here from the coast every summer to escape the heat.
Marietta is also complicated. There is a history of enslaved African Americans on large plantations, lynching of a jewish factory owner in the 1920’s and devastation during the civil war. The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was fought in Marietta and 100,000 troops occupied the city. The churches and hotels were used as hospitals, some still with the blood stains in the wood.
Somehow, I want to tell Marietta’s whole story and i ready to figure out what that is.
I am interviewing individuals that make up this city. One is Anna Brumby, a young 30 something CEO of Brumby Rocker, who’s ancestors owned slaves and started Brumby Chair Company. They looked after their employees and de-segregated the workforce, long before it was fashionable.
The logo should be beautiful, verdant, happy, proud, but also acknowledge the complication of Marietta’s history.
