The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) is a Government agency within the Department of Justice and Regulation Victoria.
BDM is the sole provider of 'life event' registration services in Victoria and has statutory obligations to record in perpetuity registrable life events, including births, deaths, marriages, adoptions, domestic and caring relationships, changes of name, and donors.
RIO is the tool for BDM team members and external stakeholders to co-produce the registration of life events on behalf of the Victorian community.
RIO has many online modules that are targeted to different audiences such as:
• eRegistry - a web based user interface for service partners e.g. marriage celebrants, funeral directors, hospitals and their medical practitioners to provide notifications for the registration of life events
• ePublic - a web based user interface that will be used by the general public to apply for BDM services or register life events online.
The new core business system (RIO) has the capability to create an individual person card where all life registrable events related to that individual person is stored. This gives the organisation a person-centric view, which greatly enhances the service provision. This is because everything about that individual is in one single page of the system.
