Operating out of the ‘Snakepit’ in Beaton Park, Illawarra Basketball operates seven days a week catering for children and adults of all ages and abilities. In recent times Illawarra Basketball has achieved many significant milestones on and off the court. These include the installation of a new stadium roof, electrical work, the completion of a new administration building, multiple country and state basketball championships and recently the completion of a car park upgrade. These achievements are a demonstration of Illawarra Basketball’s efforts to continually improve its quality and reputation as a premier sporting provider in the region. Market Position As a business, Illawarra Basketball is the one of the premier basketball providers in regional NSW and operates across several areas. The most readily recognisable being the provision of community participation programs such as the rookies program; domestic basketball competitions and the Illawarra Harks representative programs for its 1,000 members. These however, are not the only areas that Illawarra Basketball operates. The “Snake pit” basketball stadium is a major sporting venue that, in addition to basketball competitions, can also host, computer fairs; boxing; netball and several other events and functions. The provision of professional sporting administration and support services are also features of Illawarra Basketball. Its brand is well known within the basketball community and local government sectors. Current Situation Currently, Illawarra Basketball has several logos in use. The most recent logo has been in existence since 2009 however there is a need to update the current image. A heavily successful and well know component of Illawarra Basketball is its representative basketball program, the Illawarra Hawks. Until recently, Illawarra Basketball and the Illawarra Hawks operated under the same logo which does not represent the independent strengths and beliefs of Illawarra Basketball or Illawarra Hawks. With the Illawarra hawks developing a brand to identify ther product, opportunity now exists for Illawarra Basketball to develop an image that is representative of all its areas of operation. Recently, Illawarra Basketball received funds for the improvement of its faculties including the installation of a new administration centre, new roof and re-surfaced courts. A new logo is seen as important in reflecting the updated facilities and opportunities for the organisation. Communication Background Illawarra Basketball relies heavily on the distribution of information through its online presence including its website (www.snakepit.com.au) and online social media. Additionally, the current website should also be considered for development. Communication – “The message” A modern professional image representing the Mission, Vision and Values of Illawarra Basketball. Target Market Youth, active adults and business community, locally based and event organisers. Design Objectives The logo must be able to standalone or be adapted for use in all media or with Illawarra Basketball services. Attached logos include: Current logo for Illawarra basketball; Illawarra Hawks (representative basketball program); and; Wollongong NRE Hawks (local National Basketball League Team).
