"Kamayan Style" is a website that showcases video introductions of Filipino-Americans or Filipino-American organizations to the community. It serves as a soapbox or podium from which people can introduce what they are doing in the community. It will be like a Youtube or Vimeo channel for the Filipino-American community.
What is Kamayan Style?
“Kamayan Style” can be best described as a way for Filipino-Americans to introduce themselves to the Fil-Am community. It’s a bit of a play on the Tagalog word, Kamayan, which means “shaking hands.” It’s the symbolic gesture when greeting or introducing someone.
We want to introduce you to individuals or organizations that are doing something positive in their lives (something they are passionate about) and who are willing to share it with the rest of us. Whether it’s your profession, a cause, or a hobby. There is no distinction between whether something is more positive than what someone else is doing. It's more about passion. And it is through these introductions to the community that we hope will inspire others to get involved or just become more aware of the good things taking place within the Filipino-American community.
These video introductions are only 2-3 minutes long and are showcased on our kamayanstyle website which serves as a common platform to spotlight these individuals or organizations. The videos are not interviews, but rather a personal introduction to who they are, what they do, and why they do it with a special message to our Fil-Am community or about the subject of community. So, thanks for giving us the opportunity to introduce ourselves...Kamayan Style.
