We want something that works well in the context of flat design.
We'd like to get more pictorial and less abstract. If you look at the examples we picked above, they are almost all images or shapes that are recognizable as things.
So far all we're seeing, really, is abstract. Not what we're looking for, although there are some nice concepts.
We are an auth/identity company now, but we might not be in the future, so diversity is good.
We would love to see more/different fonts in the responses.
-Why is an anvil symbolic?
The anvil is at the root of all modern toolmaking.
It's a tool used to shape other tools from raw material.
We make things that other developers use to make things.
We're making identity infrastructure now, but that might not be the only thing we ever do with this company. It could be we need to pivot, leveraging what we've got to be viable. That's why we like the above justification for the name.

"We recognize the fact that the impact of infrastructure is leveraged. Our work affects not only our direct users, but their users as well. To the extent that it's deployed, our code impacts users' privacy, security, business continuity, revenue, bottom line, liability, and investments in development. Awareness of that potential affects the choices we make about software development."
We need to be more trustworthy than a bank or insurance company. (Having worked in them, I mean that in the literal sense as well as creating the perception)
Logo needs to be usable with or without the company name. Should work against dark or light background. Needs to be scalable down to the size of a favicon. Also needs to scale up well.
