We are a private equity firm that acquires companies using cash provided by our investors. We have two audiences with whom we are trying to create somewhat different impressions:
(1) business owners whose companies we would like to buy. They are probably not sophisticated financial people, so we want to come across as highly capable experts while retaining an "everyman" feel so they would feel comfortable working with us (i.e. we're not slick Wall Street finance-types which would scare away many business owners).
(2) professional investors whose funding we are using to buy companies. They are sophisticated finance professionals so we need to present to them a highly professional image.

An idea I have is to make a stylized version of the photo i have on my current website http://www.croftoncap.com (this website needs to be improved, i know). I have also attached the photo to this design brief for reference. Also attached is a logo which is an example of another firm in my industry that had a similar idea to do a stylized version of the boathouse photo they have on their website (http://www.boathousecapital.com). I'm not sure that having the logo in a circle is the best way for Crofton Capital though. Also, perhaps my logo should have two colors: green for grass and blue for water? Two other good examples is are the other two attached logos: the first is a stylized version of a mountain on their website (http://www.greymountain.com), and the second is a stylized version of a river (http://www.riversidecompany.com). I am trying to get more elements into the logo than these logos have done, and i'm not sure the best way to do that. Please note that I just mention these two logos as good examples I like of where the logo uses a stylized version of a geological feature - I don't want to copy elements of these designs! Note that I don't want a mountain in my logo - just green for grass (perhaps with a graphic of a small hill). Finally, i think that the words "Crofton Capital" should be to the right of the logo so I can use the words and logo elements separately if I choose. None of this is firm, just my initial thoughts. Thanks!
