Van Lier
I've been in the business of managing medium to large web and software design & development projects for over 15 years now, and have a ton of experience working with all kinds of clients, projects, team members, budgets. Some of the more recent sites I've been involved with include: http://www.espnrise.com, http://www.beliefnet.com, http://www.ufl-football.com, http://www.nfl-360.com, http://www.qualcomm.com, and many other major brands of the sort.
Over time, my expertise has allowed me to not just manage projects but build project management departments within companies. I did that with a software company, and most recently with a large web agency in San Diego, Digitaria.com.
Now I'm working with multiple web and software companies either as a consultant or in a project management capacity... but the bottom-line is I help them deliver projects, serve their clients, solve problems.
My clients are, in order of importance:
- Web design and development agencies
In this case, I primarily interface with mid/high-level executives that know their existing staff can't handle the client needs and hire me to come in and help.
- Software-as-a-Service companies (i.e. software that's available online, like turbotax.com)
In this case, I mostly interface with mid/high-level executives that are looking to improve their internal staff and processes to serve their clients, and deliver their products more effectively.
- Any company, in any industry that just needs help getting their web projects executed on time, on budget, and successfully.
In this case, I work with the directors of online marketing or anyone who's in charge of the company's web presence and help them plan projects, find vendors, coordinate resources, etc.
All these companies and people have one thing in common - they need help and they call me to come in and solve a problem. There is no formal process involved, they hire me based on a confidence-level that I can come in and do just that.
The logo needs to include the name "Van Lier".
It needs to look professional, so it could appeal to the 'banker' type, but mainly young and energetic, so it appeals to the web/creative agencies.
The tagline I'm playing with is simply this: "Solutions." (include the period, not the quotes.
The overall feeling/emotion of it should be: established, trustworthy, dynamic, efficient, effective.
My personal style is professional but always fun, spontaneous, effective. I want the logo to reflect that, nothing too old fashioned or traditional, but not too 'artsy' or far-fetched.
You could try either using all lower case, or hand-writing style to convey that, but I'm hoping you can find other ideas.
I'm partial to dark/navy blue, or dark grey/charcoal. If you want to introduce other, more lively colors, try a bright orange but not as a primary.
Here are examples of styles I gravitate towards:

Polo, brown frames are pretty traditional, but orange highlights to keep it young.
In the attachments is the type of car that represents the tone. Fast and sporty, but within the high-quality engineering and sophistication. The dark blue is not a traditional car color like silver or black but not too young either.
