We would like to update our brand with a clean, contemporary logo that works well both in online and print media, and includes our new name of ‘Fencing Ireland’ (both 'fencing' and 'Ireland' should be given equal/similar importance in designs) . Winning design will likely be bold, uncluttered and distinctive.
You can find attached the two logos that are currently used by the organisation. The three-swords and shamrock design is the official logo of the organisation. It is of too poor a quality, out-dated, doesn't include the name of the organisation. It is occasionally replaced on social media with the celtic knot design which was intended as a country designation for fencing breeches.
The winning design should include a version which is suitable for use as a avatar for social media. This may be a separate version or one design which conforms to the whole brief.
Elements which MIGHT inform design are the fencing swords and their distinct shape, the fencing mask, distinctive fencing positions such as the lunge or fleche (as can be seen in the US Fencing design below). Symbols of Ireland such as the harp or shamrock or symbols reflecting the olympic nature of the sport may also be useful (the Athletics Ireland logo attached suggest the Olympic Flame, for instance, without breaking any copyright). IT IS PREFERABLE TO CHOOSE ONE OR TWO OF THESE ELEMENTS AND PRESENT THEM IN A ABSTRACT FORM RATHER THAN A DESIGN WHICH IS A CHECKLIST OF ALL THESE ELEMENTS. Original illustrations or altered images of fencing silhouettes are preferred to commonly found stock silhouettes of fencers.
The simplicity of Swimming Canadas Brand (https://www.swimming.ca/brand/) would be preferred to something which tries to combine too many elements. The 'flat' colour style and bold design which present a clearly identifiable pattern no matter what size the logo is presented is also pleasing.
