Mud & Bloom is a new startup (still to be launched) it will be an online monthly subscription box service providing gardening and nature activities for children (posted through the letter box) aimed at getting children more engaged and connected with nature.

I'm looking for a logo that captures my brand, which will be fun, educational, high quality, ethical and organic. I quite like the look and language of brands such as Yeo Valley https://www.yeovalley.co.uk/, Riverford Foods https://www.riverford.co.uk/ and Dorset Cereals https://www.dorsetcereals.co.uk/ basically most of the brands created by the Design Agency Big Fish http://www.bigfish.co.uk/ I want the logo to have a 'hand made' slightly rustic feel to it, but also to be fresh and modern if that's possible! I don't want it to look too slick or at all corporate. Ideally I'd like it to capture the essence of my company, which will be about children growing 'blooming' as they learn about nature's wonders but not in a cheesy way! I don't want an image of a child in the logo, but something childlike would be good. I want it to look as natural as possible, so using only colours that you would find in nature and maybe the fonts would also be influenced by nature, potato prints, tree prints etc. Target Audience The Mud & Bloom boxes will be aimed at middle class parents, used to shopping online. Abel and Cole or Riverford Foods subscribers, they buy mainly organic food and they read the Guardian or the Times newspapers. They shop for clothes from stores such as Boden, Frugli, Whitestuff and Jools. They care about the environment and are keen for their children to be aware of the environment too. They want their brands to be ethical and good quality. What is the offer Easy and fun way to get your children engaged and connected to nature. It arrives every month on the 1st of the month and is all set up, so little work or thought process required by parents. It’s also educational for both parents and children and will be an enjoyable and rewarding experience to undertake together. Children (and some of their parents) will learn how to grow vegetables, flowers and herbs, they will learn about insects and they will learn about the seasons. What’s in the box: The Mud & Bloom monthly box will include 2 activities, one planting something and one more craft focused but to do with nature and using products found in nature. There will also be little activities aimed at teaching children about the seasons and about insects, birds, soil, rainfall and plants. It will be both fun and informative. It will also be easy to set up and use by parents. What makes it different and unique no one else is currently providing this sort of thing. The need for the product: Recent studies have shown that there is increasingly a disconnect between children and nature, resulting in amongst other things, stress and depression in later life. According to a RSPB research, only one in five children aged 8-12 in the UK were ‘connected to nature’. I personally believe this is a growing problem and I hope that my product will help inspire families to get their children closer and more connected to nature and gardening. I’ve written a blog on the subject: https://www.mudandbloom.com/home/2017/4/5/are-your-children-connected-to-nature-and-does-it-matter Competitors There are no competitors currently offering this particular product, there are however companies providing subscription boxes for children offering arts and crafts activities, language and history learning activities etc. Toucan Box https://www.toucanbox.com/ are doing particularly well, they offer indoor craft activities Brand experience I want my customers to be receiving high quality, beautiful packaged boxes each month, that look colourful, fun, ethical and educational. It needs to appeal to both the child and adult. The child will be anticipating the box each month, which will arrive through their letterbox with their name printed on it in large letters. Timings As soon as possible! Future plans If the brand is strong and the product takes off, I will be looking for some sort of partnership/sponsorship with gardening companies such as B&Q and Homebase and possibly in the future bringing out my own line of children’s gardening products.
