DCLT provided Community Development/Preservation - Affordable Housing to Durham, a city RICH with history. However, sadly, as the community grows and develops, many who contributed to that legacy are potentially not able to afford to live in the community they helped create. The logo needs to reflect stability, quality, legacy, excellence and the Durham 'hip flavor', to both it's community and it's donors.

She really liked a script like this through a logo that the prior designer submitted. Their design was "too baseball-y". This is a bit more elegant than is their style. They deal with many low income families, BUT their donors are usually wealthy but casual (not pretentious) aka 'old money'.
The classic font, and simplicity appealed to me on this one. And the tree, too, since often, the affordable housing component is all about restoring the old, sustainability, community gardens, etc.
This might be a bit European for the, but I liked the unique font, the spot up top for a brand image like a house. Also liked the spot for Est. (since they're celebrating the 30th Anniv.) and client would love to have that element in the logo (the est.).
I really love the clean elegance of this. It may be a bit too simplistic and casual, but I dig it despite.
Again, this has a simplicity (and image) but the font has a bit of an artsy element to it.
Here's what we DO know:
-Word client uses over and over is she wants something "FRESH"! They've had their logo for 30 years.
-Brand Image ideas, tree, house.
-Wants to brand DCLT vs. Durham Community Land Trustees but community doesn't know them well enough to just brand DCLT alone yet.
-Please, NO Bull or skyline in logo-it's very overused in Durham
Logo design MUST have the following:
-Both DCLT and Durham Community Land Trustees
-Most likely, the designer who WINS this logo, will get the rest of the rebranding
-Would like this to have the ‘Durham feel’ to it, but also have an element that it doesn’t get lost in all the Bull City logos in the community.
- Easy to read in B&W version, on printed collateral as well as t-shirts, etc.
-Also, one of the favorite board members is opening this restaurant right next door, it’s a fun, funky, hip vibe, yet with lots of ‘old money’ aka our current and future donors: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/lo…24308.html
-Any and all questions welcome! Thank you so much!
