I have a very clear idea of what I am looking for with a logo as far as lettering and shape. The designer I choose will also be a candidate for some illustration work moving forward, as I would like have to unique kid-friendly illustrations of each chess piece for merchandise sales (hats, shirts, etc..) in the near future.
The logo should have the text "After School Chess Club" wrapped in a circle around an image of a kid-friendly illustrated chess piece (or two). "After School" on top of the piece, "Chess Club" underneath. Feel free to experiment with variations of this "circular shape" idea. The chess piece should be doing something fun, and/or look silly in a way that fits the character of the piece. The most creative and impressionable piece illustration will be chosen.
The font for After School Chess Club should be bold, kid friendly, and easily readable.
Each illustration of a chess piece should be easily distinguishable as a chess piece and not just a medieval character. Illustrations should be colorful and fun. Font can be single or multi colored.
For inspiration consider the ideas below and themes that 5-10yr olds are currently/usually interested in, i.e: dinosaurs, dragons, star wars, robots, pokemon, princesses, anything disney, etc...
Ideas for illustration:
A "Family Portrait" of all or some of the pieces, doing funny actions (i.e bunny ears, funny faces, jumping/dancing).
A "Couples Portrait" of the King and Queen, or Two Knights (boy and girl) riding on horses who are in love.
A standalone portrait of a King piece with a cane
A standalone portrait of a King piece teaching pawns
An illustration of any chess piece that looks kid-friendly and unique.
