Irene’s Salad Bar. “Salad Bar” should be the hero and the largest part of the logo.

Irene’s Salad Bar is a new type of healthy snack food / protein bar created from all-natural ingredients including spinach, cranberry, and toasted almonds, sweetened with a touch of honey. It tastes like a granola bar meets zucchini bread – delicious and healthy! You’ll never guess you’ll be eating a full cup of spinach in every bar.
The name “Irene” comes from the inspiration behind this healthy protein bar – my mom Irene who eats salads all the time. Our target audience is anybody looking for a fresh new take on the tired brown protein bar who wants to eat healthy.
(NOTE: we would've just called this product "SALAD BAR" but couldn't get the trademark for that name because its too generic a term. So we added in my mom's name, Irene (the inspiration behind this bar who's picture is uploaded in this brief as well), that allows us to use "SALAD BAR" in the product name/logo.)

For the packaging we will be exploring the use of high-quality photography of the Salad Bar’s main ingredients: spinach (80% of the visual weight and the hero ingredient), cranberries, and toasted almonds (combined 20% of visual weight). Therefore, the logo should look good paired with predominantly green (spinach) photography with pops of red (cranberry) and nutty brown (almonds).
We think some kids and health food product packaging do food & ingredient photography well. Please see the attached images for reference.

BAD: This packaging and logo is old and too “old school”. Irene's should feel fresh and new.
GOOD: We will be exploring the use of high-quality photography of our main ingredients (spinach, cranberry, almonds). The logo should look good with it!
GOOD: We love how the logo looks with the photography of ingredients in this kid’s food.
GOOD: We love the eye-catching colors, inviting and classy logo and fonts
GOOD: We like the bold typography here
GOOD: This is a fun and approachable logo with great packaging. Note how they use photos of their popcorn which works well.
GOOD: A clean way to present the logo with photography of its ingredients.
BAD: Typography doesn't work; we are looking for clean, bold, inviting.
BAD: We don't want illustrations of vegetables
For inspiration, imagine walking into a market and seeing an aisle full of protein bars. Our fresh green bar and box packaging will stand out. How can the logo help us stand out? How does the logo work in a bigger package design system?
The biggest selling point is that this is a "Salad Bar", so the emphasis should be on that, with less emphasis on the name Irene. Some of the other protein bars have "some" elements of vegetables in their bars, but our bar is the first "salad" bar who's main ingredients is spinach.
NOTE: we would've just called this product "SALAD BAR" but couldn't get the trademark for that name because its too generic a term. So we added in my mom's name, Irene (the inspiration behind this bar who's picture is uploaded in this brief as well), that allows us to use "SALAD BAR" in the product name/logo. Feel free to include an image of Irene (photo of her in the red sweater is included in the brief) in the logo should you feel it enhances your logo.
