From streets to peaks: Zero Ceiling empowers marginalized street youth
to transform their circumstances and reach sustainable new heights,
through inspirational and adventurous mountain experiences, life
skills instruction, mentorship, community support, housing and stable
work. Note that our mountain experiences include mountain biking,
skiing, snowboarding, zip-lining, whitewater rafting and more.
Zero Ceiling is a non-profit organization based in Whistler, British
Columbia, which has been doing charitable work in our region for 17
years. We started as a grassroots snowboard organization that brought
inner city kids to the mountains for a day on the slopes, but now we
do much more.
Our programs provide innovative solutions to serious social problems
that exist in our own backyard. The youth we help range in age from
13 to 24, and are living in or emerging from intensely challenging
circumstances that put them at high risk for homelessness. Currently
all the youth we serve come from either the urban environs of Greater
Vancouver or the communities of the Sea to Sky Corridor (e.g.
Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Mount Currie, and D’Arcy).
Our programs (all of which currently take place in Whistler) empower
these youth to elevate themselves from a life on the streets to
healthy and sustainable new peaks.
The key to our work is the belief that inspirational mountain
experiences have the power to transform lives. We pair those
inspirational mountain experiences with life skills instruction,
mentorship, community support, housing and stable work.
Our programs range from fun, adventurous, guided single-day visits
(which include snowboarding, skiing, zip-lining, whitewater rafting
mountain biking) to a six-month residential program (which includes
all of the above plus housing, employment, life coaching,
mentorship, community volunteering and more.)
Youth leave our programs both inspired and equipped to bust through
the glass ceiling that had been limiting the possibilities of their
lives. Our programs provide one-of-a-kind solutions to homelessness,
one youth at a time.
