Building Understanding of Development through Discussions In Everyday Settings Program:
We are seeking a design to capture the spirit of our B.U.D.D.I.E.S. – Building Understanding of Development through Discussions In Everyday Settings - program. This is an immersive experience that provides graduate and undergraduate students with an opportunity to learn 1) about how early life experiences are important for a child both now and in the future and 2) how we can elevate our community’s understanding about this topic by sharing our knowledge of child development with other community members. The BUDDIES program is a joint endeavor between a University faculty member and leaders of a local preschool.
BUDDIES provide University students with a structured experience in observing and learning about how children grow while at the same time providing them with the tools for successfully delivering a succinct, cogent, and lay person friendly message about the importance of child development and children as active citizens in our everyday world. In order to engage with community members, University students will be paired with a preschool class room and visit with students in this classroom ~4 hours per month. In addition, graduate and undergraduate students participating in the BUDDIES program would accompany preschool teachers and their preschool student buddies on field trips to community destinations. Accompanying their preschool student buddies to community destinations will allow students to share a brief message about the importance of early childhood development with community members also present in a visited location.
We would like to have a logo for the BUDDIES program illustrating the idea of conversation between University Students and community members that is child centered. We would also like the logo to have the idea of the developing child as central to the image.
It might resemble something like the holding hand image used for the Child Development Policy Institute (http://www.cdpi.net). The style used to illustrate the figures and whether the word BUDDIES is incorporated into them is open. We prefer that the figures used to illustrate the University student, preschooler, and community member not resemble an identifiable sex (i.e., not distinctly male or female).
