Scope of Work:
Develop and present 2 new logos for FAMA (Fire Apparatus Manufacturers’ Association). One logo is to incorporate the Maltese Cross in some fashion. The other logo should not include the Maltese Cross. The FAMA Board will determine the finalists and present those designs to the membership for comment prior to adoption of one design. Only one design will be chosen.
The FAMA board is seeking options for refreshing the current logo which has been in use for many years. Elements of the existing logo include the letters “FAMA", the descriptive words “Service, Progress, Research, Safety”, and the Maltese Cross. The Maltese Cross is the symbol universally adopted by the North American fire service and is readily recognized within the fire industry. The primary colors of the current FAMA logo are red, white and black.
Incorporation of the letters “FAMA” is considered to be highly desirable. The current words appearing in the logo are helpful to establish context, but are not essential. Similarly, the Maltese Cross helps provide context but is not essential. It is considered highly desirable to maintain the current colors in any refreshed design.
The FAMA website is a good source for additional information. The URL is http://www.fama.org.
FAMA works closely with other organizations including:
Fire Emergency Manufacturers and Services Association (FEMSA),
Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI),
International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC),
National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC),
National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF),
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
As such, the redesigned logo should not be too similar to these and other organizations aligned with the fire service.
