Filmmaker in a Box (created by YourHalfMediaGroup.com) is to be a series of film production case studies meant to inform and educate low budget and first-time filmmakers. This is a retail product comprised of several DVDs that would explain to a prospective filmmaker, in exacting step-by-step detail, how they would begin the process of putting together a low budget production and would then follow through the process of shooting the film and finally editing and completing it. This product would consist of extensive interviews with all of the principals involved with the film as well as exclusive behind the scenes footage and access to actual documents and contracts used during production. The product would offer a level of candor and insight into the various traps and missteps inherent in mounting a film while breaking down the seemingly insurmountable job into a series of manageable tasks. We are trying to convey a sense of authority on this subject while still projecting an understanding of the creativity inherent in movie making. As we have once been in the same place where our clients are now, we want to convey a sense of empathy and understanding and a willingness to educate without talking down to anyone.

We are targeting first-time filmmakers about to make the plunge as well as anyone seriously considering investing hundreds of thousands of dollars and years of their life in making a movie. We'd like to convey that this is an essential tool you'll need to have before first stepping on set. We're also targeting students who are currently in communications programs who are curious about what going through production is like, as well as the parents of said students who would like to give their sons and daughters a leg up in the real world. We see this as a product sold in college book stores as well as vocational expos, specialty bookstores, and through an online storefront.
We're looking for a logo that conveys professionalism and a sense of authority. This product will be sold for as much as $400 so the logo must instill a sense of confidence in consumers that their investment will be well spent. As this is a product related to the vocation of filmmaking and motion pictures we're open to incorporating elements of this into the logo but it is not an ironclad requirement and should not inhibit your creativity. This logo will be used on the spine of our product as well as be incorporated into an eventual website and onscreen menus of the product so there must be some versatility to it. As this logo will be featured on the side of a box, it's very possible it will be most widely seen as a small graphic as opposed to a larger one, so this should be considered as well. Intricate designs are nice but better that it stands out even in a diminished capacity. It is also preferable that the logo withstand the "xerox test" (ie: that even in black and white the logo is distinct and memorable, although we encourage the use of colors). Beyond that, you have free reign. We're looking for creative solutions and we have no preconceived notions of what this should look like.
