Voyaging Foods has developed a niche food product line targeting the allergy-free, gluten-free, health market. We cultivate Hawaiian tubers (starchy vegetables) such as taro and sweet potato, into naturally-wheat, gluten and grain-free flours, mixes and baked goods.
Our culture is based on core ideals: I am a food soverignty advocate doing my part in trying to keep Hawaii's strong agricultural history not just in storybooks but in the now. I am a mom who cares about where and how our food is grown and processed before it gets to our tables. I am interested in health for our family and island community. I want put words into action and doing my part to grow, manufacture and process the most healthiest food for those we care about.

There is an emerging, health niche market that offers gluten free flours and mixes for pancakes, cookies and other baked goods. we are targeting health food advocates, moms who use gluten-free mixes and flours to bake at home, organic food fans, those who suffer from allergies and need alternative natural flours and mixes. This target market reads their labels and cares about healthy food. many people don't really know what taro is so a picture on the label is important so they know it is a plant.
-We are looking for a couple of different ideas that need to be in the logo design: 1) an ancient style looking Polynesian canoe with two scallop sails. Every brand in Hawaii uses this motif so I am looking at being a little different and having more of a contemporary look by using tapa cloth in the sails with images of taro plants mixed with tapa in colors. 2) A vintage looking botanical drawing of taro plant.
-If these two looks can be together without looking too jumbled, I am not sure.. I want the logo to convey that the taro plant was taken in the ancient Polynesian's canoe on long voyages for their food.
-Hawaiian flag is an important feature
-sizes need to be no bigger than 5"x12" and little less is best since we are planning on printing on white or tan color paper labels and screen or soy ink on a burlap or cotton muslin drawstring bag for the flour and mixes.
-Not too small details.
-not too many colors since the logo is mostly for our branding and the other products will probably have their own images on them so this image needs to be able to small enough to fit on letterhead and in a label if I need to minimize the look.
-I don't like clip art, mostly interested in an impressionistic water-color type look. Almost like it was done by hand or vintage looking. My favorite looks are from the Chauvist artists such as Dufy and Chagall to understand the concept.
