We chose the name UrbanChalk as many local restaurants, bars, etc. use chalkboards to convey messages, menu items, specials. We would like a clean, simple logo the might be easy to put on a chalkboard.
We would also like to use all or part of the logo as an icon, for "Chalking Something Up" or "Chalking It Up" or "Chalk it" instead of using the word Vote or Tag. It isn't a requirement to work it in to the design.
Our demographic would best be described as the alt weekly reader. Young, urban, attends concerts, smartphone, likes the coffee shop, etc.
We want a very clean, simple site, but want to convey a bit of an 'online' local coffeeshop. For example, instead of ads we are profiling the work of local artists. In contrast, the Yelp site has a very corporate feel in that every city looks alike. Whereas Yelp is Starbucks, our design goal is to be the local coffee shop.
