Joytothegirl.com is a website where I post weekly-ish, personal essays on such topics as positive psychology, mental health and wellness (specifically my own experience with depression), the pursuit of happiness and how to cultivate and create joy, gratitude and lightness in one's life. (Some would call it a blog but I think "blog" is a pretty ugly word for a place full of words.) My writing is honest, sometimes brutally so, with a good dollop of humour thrown in, and with it I hope to inspire others to be honest, brave and joyful in their own lives.

Diseño de inspiración
I consider myself a minimalist in many ways, and I'm attracted to clean, simple (although not necessarily unsophisticated) design that tends toward openness, clean lines and shapes, and a more abstract than realistic approach. My site is currently designed in black and white and I would like the logo to be in black and white (or greyscale) with a pop (or pops) of colour (teal and/or yellow) - this is somewhat representative of the website's theme of finding joy (colour) in the ordinary. I love logos that use negative space in a smart way and a logo that uses negative space might nicely echo my writing on the subject of minimalism and creating both physical and mental space, although it is by no means necessary that this logo include negative space; just something to consider. A set or representation of three is symbolic to me of my two daughters and I (a unit of three), and might be another thing to consider. I'm not interested in happy faces or any other obvious, cliche image about happiness/joy. Reading a little of my writing on the site would give you a good sense of who I am and my personal values, I think, and allow you to better customize a logo for the site. My first instinct is to say that I want a stand alone logo image that does not include the name, but would rather be placed beside the name, however I am very open to seeing typographic designs that incorporate the name itself - there are certainly some amazing examples of logos like that on this website. Feel free to veer off these guidelines if you're so inspired. I'm open to being surprised.
Updated to add: Despite the "girl" in the title, I'm not particularly girly and want the site to appeal to both men and women, so the logo needs to be fairly gender neutral in that sense. Many of the designs that have come in are far too feminine for what I'm looking for.
