Karat

We are a new startup online jewelry store and we will be selling very high quality jewelry for a good price. We will be providing nice packaging with all merchandise. We want to come across as elegant, but trendy and contemporary. We are in need of a great brandable logo that looks great on business cards, website, jewelry ring boxes, etc.

Our name, "Karat" represents the purity of gold. For example, 24K or 24 Karat is pure gold. 18K or 18 Karat is 75% gold.

We will be selling gold, silver and platinum as well as diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and unique gemstones such as tourmalines, tanzanites and colored diamonds.

We will be competing with Blue Nile, Tiffany & Co., James Allen, and similar sites.

We are looking for something really creative and trendy, but also elegant. We want a logo that will print well while also looking great on a website and other digital media. Unfortunately, we don't know what we want other than that, so we're truly looking for your creativeness. It could be just the name in a great looking style or maybe it's the name plus some elegant symbol. Something eye-catching.

We want a logo that:
• contains our name, but possibly has an image that can stand alone
• reflects that we're involved in luxury merchandise
• is legible/readable on print material, even if printed quite small
• works as a black & white image
• must look good on a white or black background
• is original (can’t violate copyright laws or use unlicensed photos)

Colors & design elements are up to the designer. We like the idea of chrome/silver, but "karat" represents "gold", so we also like the idea of gold. We also like the idea of black with gold or chrome accents. But, we're also open to any color. Once we start seeing colors that we like, we'll definitely give feedback.

The logo should be 100% vector format in Adobe Illustrator and should be able to be opened in Adobe Illustrator CS3. The AI file should utilize layers and all layers should be well labeled. A PNG with transparent background should be provided as well.
