Juvenile InJustice is a new campaign that will launch this Fall to create awareness about the injustices affecting probation-involved youth in Los Angeles, California. Many of our youth are born into a vicious cycle of poverty, trauma, gang involvement, substance abuse, and incarceration. The juvenile justice system (including law enforcement, the court system, and the probation department) is responsible for rehabilitating these youth yet the system is unfair, expensive, and ineffective.
Juvenile InJustice is a new campaign of the Coalition for Engaged Education that will highlight these injustices and the brokenness of the system. At its core will be an annual Fellowship of 12 youth (6 college students and 6 formerly incarcerated youth) who will spend a year learning about juvenile justice reform and will develop an online video campaign to build awareness.
