Dr. Alexa Alborzi, Alborzi Orthodontics Sponsor of Program: Face Mask Designs for R.E.S.P.E.C.T Bidding Process Brief [Instructions for bidding process here] Purpose of Program: Why? What’s Going On? The need for children to learn respect, particularly in the difficult times surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, is a concern for parents. Doctors and dentists in the community surrounding Silicon Valley express concerns for the need to have children learn health and wellness good habits in addition to the need for respect. Teachers are under a great deal of pressure to incorporate masks and CDC guidelines in their classrooms when schools reopen. With the start of the new school year it is hoped that this program will teach students respect and project the program’s sponsor, Dr. Alexa Alborzi in a positive light. The program has two parts which will work simultaneously to teach health and wellness during the pandemic. A contest for designing face masks - following a presentation by Dr. Alborzi and her team of doctors a contest for designing face masks will be offered to various elementary and/or middle schools (grades K through 6). The points would be related to R.E.S.P.E.C.T. The designs would be rendered on 8.5x11 paper or thin poster board and submitted for judging. An essay contest – students will be invited to write essays on the subject of RESPECT and Health and Wellness – staying clean, good hygiene (in light of COVID), social distancing, etc. WHILE maintaining respect for others. “We are all in this together.” The Messaging: Feel Free to Hum Along The focus of the messaging on either contest is the same: promote health and wellness in light of COVID-19 by social distancing, wearing a mask, washing hands, eating healthy, and exercising, while showing respect for each other, teachers and family. The activities, when grouped together, spell R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Why respect? Because when both the parents in the patient survey as well as the non-patients were asked “as a parent what do you feel are the most important values a child should learn growing up?” the top answer by both was treating people with respect. R E S P E C T – smile, be kind, (messages on masks) R – RESPCT space and distance during pandemic; social distancing E – EVERYONE is in this together S – SMILE even through a mask P - PREVENT spread of germs by washing hands and wearing masks E – EAT healthy foods and EXERCISE C – be CONSIDERATE of others – sometimes it’s hard to understand what others are saying while wearing masks T - don’t TOUCH your face Branding: The Look Now that you know the activity, the subject, the audience and the purpose you can start designing with the brand in mind. The contest itself needs a brand that tells the story and purpose. It will incorporate Alborzi Orthodontics and Dr. Alborzi, but only as the program’s sponsor. The community relations department will share graphic elements that they feel will help you. She is known to tackle some of orthodontistry’s most difficult cases not only with a high degree of success but also minimizing surgery. As a respected professor of orthodontics for 14 years, she instructed many graduate students at the University of California San Francisco, School of dentistry.
