We would like the words to be able to be separated from any symbol so that both elements can be used independently. Members of the Black Swans will have a lapel pin in order to be able to identify each other so the logo needs to be able to be used for this purpose as well as on a business card or letterhead.
No serif fonts please. We would prefer our Black Swans to be Black and would like the logo to include both orange and black. We like graduated colouring so a sunrise orange graduation may work well for example. Static swans don't necessarily convey the action attributed to Black Swan events - we would like to see attempts of more dynamic swans, perhaps preparing for flight or in flight.
UPDATE FOR FINALISTS: For the last 3 days of submissions, we would like to see designs that also include the following ideas:
a. Swan imagery incorporating the defensive or 'angry' swans shown below (albeit they're white 'cos we couldn't find same in black).
b. Submissions with a split background of half white and half orange so we can compare designs against different backdrops (i.e. same or similar logo appears twice on the page with each on a different colour)
c. Swan always facing mostly to the right so the head/neck/chest makes a natural 'S' shape
d. No black or grey backgrounds please.
e. As we want to use the logo for a lapel badge (among other things), we want the final shape to be instantly recognisable from a distance i.e. with a slightly unusual backdrop shape or parts of the swan outside of backdrop boundary.
