Almost all the entries to this point have included a separate icon. Very few designers have tried to incorporate a distinctive icon into the actual words of the logo. We would prefer to see a text treatment on the words that possibly incorporates the icon (for example: a distinctive "O" in "OpenApps").
I believe that many of the icons provided could possibly be reworked to be included within the text. However, we are looking at increasing the contest prize a bit to account for this alteration of instruction.
We require a logo and identity elements that can be flexible and appear in many forms and formats. This should include a word treatment on the site name, an icon to represent the company as a favicon.ico on the web site, as well as various identities online (such as a corporate twitter account, Facebook page, etc..). The logo should be able to work with a variety of color treatments (such as black and white, or using a single color on a card, or an embroidered T-Shirt) and in a variety of situations (Stickers, tradeshow booths, t-shirts).
This is a service that is going to appeal to people trying to make an impression and imprint on the Web. It should be in harmony with design seen in clean, attractive blog themes and well designed, popular web applications.
We'll want a vector file at the end of the contest (AI, EPS) as well as any composite stuff you've done with Photoshop.
Our preferences are for:
Simple yet bold colors
Logo can/should suggest:
Joining multiple things together
Inserting (as in, inserting functional applications into your existing web site template)
Ease of Use
