Nihao Shifu is an On-Demand, Peer-to-Peer App Platform that connects Service Seekers with local Service Providers. Services range from domestic services such as minor repairs and to home improvement.
In addition, instead of focusing entirely on Repair Services, Nihao Shifu is planning to expand into the Peer-to-Peer Tasking market. Famous examples are http://www.taskrabbit.com and http://www.airtasker.com
With regards to this, we would like to avoid the image of being a "Repair Company", instead we want to be a " peer to peer platform to tasking"
Therefore, we are not looking for a branding that associates us to Repair Services, and thus locks us into a single industry. Quite the opposite, since Nihao Shifu is located in China, we wish to adjust our branding to the Chinese Market. The use of animal and cartoon-like mascots is very famous among larger businesses in China. Famous ones include T-Mall (Tian Mao 天猫）and Mei Tuan Wai Mai (美团外卖）. According to the style of the above, we would also like to base our cartoon-like animal logo.
The animal of our choosing would be a Monkey. Sun Wu Kong being the most famous Chinese monkey. Sun Wu Kong also represents many meanings associated to “Shifu” thus he being the animal/mascot of out choosing.
With regards to designing mascots, from our experience, the chinese market relies heavily on the visual power of such mascots. thus brands and companies can immediately be distinguished and identified by looking at the animal mascot.
Our main Product is an APP, therefore the mascot has to work as an APP icon, rather than being an artwork unusable for mobile products. The animal has to be powerful and can stand out from the masses.
We would wish the designer to pay attention to the chinese market and how big brands in china use visuals/mascots to represent their companies (and their apps)

Hello and thank you very much for everyone who has submitted a design!
I wanted to add some detail about Sun Wukong and thus a little bit more of a guideline of what kind of Icon we are looking for.
In China, Sun Wukong is the Monkeyking and not just any monkey. Therefore just seeing a Chimpanzee head (or any other monkey) would confuse people, if not turn them off. Aside from Sun Wukong, other Monkeys are certainly not as highly regarded as he is.
Speaking of Sun Wukong, he is famous for certain poses. Therefore we would highly appreciate i the full Design is of his whole body. Whether we change his look for an App icon (or only include his face, can be decided at a later stage).
I will insert one or two pictures about his poses:
https://www.google.com/imgres?imgur…mrc&uact=8 (bottom left being the most famous)
https://www.google.com/imgres?imgur…mrc&uact=8 (this picture of him goes more into a humanized direction of him and not what we are looking for, but it is interesting to see his features, what he wears, what weapon he has)
https://www.google.com/imgres?imgur…mrc&uact=8 (this one is very cute - him eating a Touzi (a heart shaped peach) is very famous in china) If he is not pictured in a sort of fighting or "look out" position, then he might be sitting on a cloud or eating.
Coming to the detail of his branding. if Sun Wukong's body has the same colours as the pictures I showed you above, it is the easiest to associate him with who he is meant to be, the monkeyking. The monkeyking not wearing his weaopon, or his usual dress or facemask makes him loose his status.
In our imagination, our little Sun Wukong is in one of his typical positions, holding his weapon, being coloured in his standard set of colours, and wearing a Nihao Shifu Tshirt. This TShirt has the following Colour Hex Code
and the Font is in Helvetica and writing in White.
I would really appreciate designers attempting this project, since the Logo is only the start to a major branding project. If we find what we are looking for with a particular designer, we are planning to engage him for whole company and app branding.
